Ceramic artwork lined the walls, depicting compelling scenes of shared memories and imaginations.

ヲウチ：優勝した感想はどうですか？
ハナエさん：とても嬉しいです。このような幸運に恵まれたことにとても驚いていますし、貴重な経験になりました。本当にありがとうございます。

100人展に出品すると決めてからどのように作品制作を進められましたか？エピソードなどございますか？
テーマが’ＬＯＶＥと決まっていましたので、自分の中で１番実感のあるカタチでＬＯＶＥを表現したいと思いながら、イメージを固めていきました。　参加が決まってから作品の発送までに、忙しくあまり時間がなかった上に遅筆なので、出品が間に合うか途中心配になりましたが、無事、発送できたときはホッとしました。

100人展に参加しようと思ったきっかけは何ですか？

１つのテーマで１００人の作品を集めて展示するという企画がとても面白いと思いました。’ＬＯＶＥ’がテーマだったことにも惹かれました。

今後の作品制作やアーティスト活動について何か変化は生じそうですか？
制作中自分の絵に悩むこともありますので、今回のことはとても励みになりました。なにより制作意欲に繋がります。ありがとうございます。

Ouchi Galleryでの100人展参加についての感想はどうですか？
会期中の映像を観て、自分も実際に会場に行きたくなりました。
１つのテーマでも、色々な受け止め方や切り口があることを感じて刺激になりましたし、勉強になりました。
次回の１００人展もとても楽しみに思っています。

Here is the conversation Ouchi Gallery had with Hanae Saito about winning this award and her plans for the future.

Ouchi: How do you feel having won this award?
Hanae: I am very happy. It's really surprising to be blessed with this kind of good luck, and it's been such a good experience. Truly, thank you so much.

After deciding to submit to the 100 Artist Exhibition, how did you move forward with the creation of your artwork?
Given the theme of LOVE, I wanted to both express my innermost true feelings while also solidifying it and giving LOVE shape. Unfortunately, from when I decided to participate until I sent in my work, I was busy and didn't really have much time. Moreover, I was working on my piece slowly, so I was worried about whether I would be able to make it in time. When I was finally able to ship it, I felt very relieved.

  What motivated you to participate in the 100 Artist Exhibition?
I thought it was very interesting how this project gathered 100 artists' works all under a single theme. Also, the theme of LOVE was attractive to me.

Has this experience inspired any developments in your plans as an artist?
Having had some worries about my work, this sort of thing is great encouragement. More than anything, it has propelled my desire to create.

Do you have any other thoughts about your participation in the 100 Artist Exhibition?
Looking at the pictures and videos from the opening, I really wanted to go to the gallery too.
Even though there was only one theme, I was inspired by the variety of ways that people interpreted it. It was illuminating.
I am looking forward for the next 100 Artist Exhibition.

Hanae Saito graduated from Joshibi Art University's Department of Fine Arts in 2008. Having concentrated in Japanese Painting as a student, she has been exploring new realms of style in her most recent work.

"When I paint, I often use small children as a motif. They have special charm, full of fresh energy for life and pure love for their parents, pets, and all the rest. They know naturally what love is. Children bare their hearts so openly, sometimes they get hurt. And they dream so freely when playing with their favorite toys, they easily become lost in their own world. Tomoya Tsukamoto's Opening Reception

Tomoya Tsukamoto's opening reception, held on Nov. 29th was a great success.

With plenty of new faces, we were able to enjoy the night along the illusion-filled works of Tsukamoto.

Tsukamoto was also able to attend the opening reception which allowed our guests to speak to him about his many mirages.

A lively night it was indeed!

Kana Shimao's Opening Reception

Kana Shimao's collages welcomed our eager guests on the 22nd of November. White walls filled with color and fun, Ouchi Gallery transformed into an oasis filled with childhood and long lost memories.

Shimao's works display a subtle dimension through the delicate layering of collages in each of her paintings. Click here to see more of her works.

Our conversations drifted along with the night. There's something about being able to have the time to remember our youth. Living in New York City, often times we don't have the time to remember the past. But when we do, it's amazing to see how much we have grown and changed.

A night of reflection.

We also got to celebrate Vito's birthday on this lovely night.

Jasek Maczynski's Memorial Exhibition

Jasek Maczynski's Memorial Exhibition held an important place in the hearts of many who attended.

Jacek had a profound love for the Japanese culture. As a regular guest, he would often visit the gallery to seek inspiration and share his opinions.

Surrounded by friends, Jacek's works were observed attentively.

Jacek's paintings has always had a solitary quality to it, allowing the audience to feel like they were diving into the void-like spaces he created.

His untimely death is a great loss for those who knew him.

Jacek, you will always be remembered for your passion in bridging the gap between the west and the east. Your artworks speak for both worlds and encourage us to do the same.

Rest in peace Jacek Maczynski.

Riku Ikegaya's Opening Reception

Community spirit, art, music, and food all came together at Riku Ikegaya's opening reception.

The diverse crowd we had tonight allowed everybody to connect in one way or another to the photographs that were exhibited.

The video that was displayed throughout the reception stimulated laughter and interest from our guests.

Ouchi Staff at JAM!

Friday, Oct. 4, the Ouchi staff members set out to explore the Japanese Arts Matsuri. The JAM convention was colored by many DIY stands, allowing us to explore many different variety of arts and crafts.

Occupying the little corner with a table and sofa, we devoured the yakisoba!

I don't know anywhere else you could try these noodles, but be on a look out! Ouchi might just end up making some for the opening, too!!

Rie Yamamoto's Opening Reception

Like all our Tuesdays, we had an opening reception featuring the works of Rie Yamamoto, our first

１００人点 (1oo Artists) Winner.

Using Rie Yamamoto's work as the epicenter, our guests cruised around the gallery discussing the many meanings Yamamoto's illustrations contained.

Despite the language barrier, we all helped one another to share our thoughts about Yamamoto san's work!

Our guests were also able to participate in the Drawing workshops led by the artist. Explaining the methods she used to illustrate her works, she led our participants into a world where they could freely use ink to express themselves.

As you can see, they were very much absorbed in their work.

Yoshimi's Opening Reception

Yoshimi's work embellished the white walls of Ouchi on October 25th. The different tones of blue, green, and red created a tranquil space that allowed one to feel relaxed.

Yoshimi was raised in Kanagawa, Japan. After her junior college studies in Japan, she made the decision to travel around southeast asia where she was greatly influenced by the vibrant cultures of Indonesia.

Her works have strongly become color-concentrated.

Ryo Makioka's Opening Reception

The works of Ryo Makioka were definitely one of my favorites. His challenge to defy traditional painting by using pastel and wood boards were inspirational.

Many of his works included images of the feline species. He explains that they embody the "feelings" he wants to express.

This exhibition was also very special because we served soup for the very first time! We will be serving soup every now and then to keep you warm from New York's harsh, cold weather!

Hiroka made such delicious brownies. It was one of our food highlights of the night!

We were also able to sing a warm Happy Birthday to Marius.

Excited and gleaming with joy, Jasmine E Maldonado walked into Ouchi on a Sunday afternoon. We couldn't resist giving her the WAG gift because of her apparent love for Jiyang Kim's exhibition.

1) What do you think about WAG?

I think that WAG is a beautiful way to spread awareness of an artist to art lovers and viewers. WAG is also a wonderful way to spread art throughout the world. Art is meant to be shared and the WAG is such a generous and ingenious way to disperse it. The WAG is especially meaningful to someone like me, who does not have the luxury of purchasing art.

2) How do you feel about being this week's WAG winner?

I feel very happy to be this week's WAG winner. In my thank you letter to you I express that I was shocked and pleased because I never felt so lucky in my life. It was a real honor to have been the recipient that week.

3) What do you plan to do with the gift when you receive it?

I put the WAG up in my room. I look at it everyday and it brings me much happiness. It brings me happiness for two reasons: because the colors are joyful and the painting is beautiful and because every time I look at it I remember how special I felt to have received it.

A few weeks later, we got a letter from her. It said,

Dear Ouchi Gallery,

I am so honored to have been your WAG recipient at this past week's solo exhibition of Jiyang Kim's work. I was surprised when Naomi awarded me the prize---I never thought that I would ever be lucky enough to win the WAG. It means so much to me to have received it.

I am especially honored to own one of Ms. Kim's paintings because of how her work speaks to me. She uses color boldy. The color pallete of blues and perples, reds, whites and pinks appeals to my spritual senses. Her pieces simultaneously awaken and relax me.

I love the thick textures that she creates with her paints. I love the three-dimensional aspect of many of her paintings;how she adds elements, such as flowers, that come off of the canvas. "Layers, Layers of Thought" was my favorite piece for all of these reasons.

Thank you so much to Ouchi and to Jiyang Kim for her gift of "In the Spring". Looking upon this painting brings me joy everyday.

A big thank you to Ouchi for being my favorite art gallery to visit. Your homestyle setting is inviting. Your hospitality makes me feel like a valued guest and creates a warm environment that allows for maximum comfort to experience the artwork. I am a number one fan.

Jiyang Kim was born in Seoul, Republic of Korea. She became interested in art after she came to U.S for studying. She majored in fine art and art education at Corcoran College of Art and Design from 2009 to 2011. Her passion for art began as part of her need-desire to discover new aspects of herself. Also she wanted to clarify her goals in developing her art skills and activities. Jiyang feels a good deal of self -confidence when her work is going well. Working on her own art is like she has traveled around the world and discovered “her” style. She uses many kinds of materials like wire, button, and newspaper, to express different aspects of objects. Drawing or painting for a realistic depiction is not her style. She wants to show something that people can perceive not only with their eyes, but their ears and their hearts as well.

Munemi Natsu was born in 1980 and grew up in Tokyo, Japan. After she had majored in literature at University, desiring for something to create, she started personal photograph projects with her antique half-frame camera. She mainly takes photographs of nature and daily life of ordinary people. The documentary project in various places of Japan is her life work.

Munemi participates in some domestic and foreign exhibitions. This is her first solo exhibition. Through her artworks (such as photography, painting, music), she encounters the fundamental hope or solitude of mankind, and expresses unfathomable depths of the human mind.

U-Chora WAG Winner

U-Chora's postcards were actually our first Weekly Artist Gift at Ouchi.

The winner was Drew from Minnesota.

We just recently heard back from him though, and we thought it would be nice to share what he said!

1) What do you think about WAG?

WAG seems to be a good way to promote the gallery and gain recognition. It also gives the recipient a sense of familiarity and closeness to both the artwork, and the gallery.

2) How do you feel receiving this artist's gift?

I feel loved, and grateful for the effort put forth by the gallery to create a closer relationship with its friends.

3) Do you know what you will do with U-Chora's postcards?

I plan to send them to friends, and ask those friends to paste over the previous writing, sending them on again. I don't know how that would work exactly, but I like the idea of the images reaching many people.

4) Other comments?

Ushimaru Saeki came from Japan to Ouchi Art Gallery in Brooklyn for her solo exhibition, "The 牛 Saeki World."

Saeki's concept of art is to do "something you wanted to do but can't learn at school"

For her exhibition, she brought what she enjoys doing and what she feels is fun. She hopes for people to think, simply, "It's cute, and "I like it!"

All of pieces have title however, she wants us to decide the title

Even she changes the title after a while.

This huge piece was created for her home town renewal project which is Tochigi- Utsunomiya.

After seeing her artwork, it's easy to feel as if you're becoming a kid again, just enjoying that blissfulness. .

Because Saeki's art was very positive and HAPPY, there were a lot of little sweets like cup cakes at Ouchi.

Aya Abe "Flower Transformation"

At this point, she paints flowers a lot. Flowers can be seen by so many different ways.

Especially she likes to paint a kind of flower "Gloriosa"

Gloriosa is a genus of five or six species in the plant family Colchicaceae, from tropical Africa and Asia. They are tender, tuberous rooted deciduous perennials, adapted to summer rainfall with a dormant dry season.All parts of the plant contain colchicine and related alkaloids and are therefore dangerously toxic if ingested, especially the tubers; contact with the stems and leaves can cause skin irritation.

She used only one color because she want you to focus on the object itself. To not have any color, she wound be able to show you only what she wants to show.

These are the material for Japanese painting work shop.

First, you pick a color and put in the tray. Then mix with a kind of glue which was made of caw's oil. When you mix, use your finger. After that add little bit of water and it's ready to paint.

Aya Abe

Aya Abe was born in Tokyo, Japan. When she was a baby, she swayed her hips to the rhythm of music even before she started walking. Because she was such a performance-loving baby, her mother brought her to a dance studio at her age of 4. She has been enjoying dancing since then. In her childhood she also loved to draw comics and her dream was becoming a cartoonist. When she was in her teens, she had a chance to live in Ithaca, N.Y., for a year with her family, and attended Ithaca High School. Whoever once lived in a foreign country starts thinking about her own culture, and so was she.

She received Master of Education in Fine Arts in Japanese-Style Paintings at Tokyo Gakugei University in 1980. She has been holding many exhibitions including solo as well as group shows of her art works since 1990.

In the last 10 years, she has focused on flowers in search for their beauties in designed pattern that characterizes traditional Japanese Art. She also attempts at extemporaneous drawing, combining it with designed pattern, which results in what she believes a contemporary Japanese-style painting with supreme elegance.

Noriko Ii "Pi:s"

Noriko Ii's concept is the gathering of shapes and what that can create.

Many of her works consist of a menagerie of shapes, often humans or animals, arranged closely to one another like puzzle pieces in chaos. However, within this mess of figures, there is always an overriding harmony. In this way, each piece is necessary to the whole.

Most of her paintings consist of just a few colors.

Her painting style is often automatic. With a vague idea for her final image, she improvises most of the constituent pieces: the intertwining snakes, the jumbling fish, the tangled bodies, all of them come just one at a time.

６月に行われた第３回１００人展でゲストの投票で選ばれたアーティストのHukuzawa Takayukiさんにインタビューをしてみました。

1.優勝した感想はどうですか？

参加にあたっての作業は作品の郵送のみで、現地にも足を運べなかったためか、

未だにあまり実感が湧きません。

ただ、会場の様子を写真で拝見した限りでは多くの作品が展示されており、インパクトのある作品がいくつも見受けられました。その中にあって、私の作品を評価してくださったことは、大変嬉しく、光栄に思います。

2.100人展に出品すると決めてからどのように作品制作を進められましたか？

エピソードなどございますか？

まず、今年の上半期は、これまでに制作した作品のプロモーションに軸足を置くことを重視していました。

NODSEもその一つで、２年ほど前に制作したものがベースとなっています。

今回の100人展では「RED」がテーマとして掲げられていましたので、

NODSEのシリーズ展開として、コードを赤くした出品作品『Nosebleed』を新たに用意しました。

また、ただ造形化するのではなく、なぜその作品を制作するのかというコンセプトを大切にし、

「RED]と『Nosebleed』を結ぶストーリーの作成にも注力しました。

英訳においては友人mariの協力を得て、

コンセプトストーリーと造形作品を一体的に表現することができたと思います。

3.100人展参加しようと思ったきっかけは何ですか？

前述のように、ただ作品を作るだけでなく、それを発信する手段を模索していた時期に

100人展の募集を知ったことが直接的なきっかけです。

また応募を検討し始めた時期に、ちょうど震災後の報道の中で、世界各国の支援や温かい声援が伝えられていました。それを受け、感謝の気持ちや元気な姿を海外の方々へ発信したいば、と考えていたような気もします。

4.今後の作品制作はやアーティスト活動について何か変化は生じそうですか？

私は日頃「ユーモア＋アート」を基本理念に制作活動に精励しています。

今回の展示を機に、考えていることは以下の二点です。

①より国際的に普遍なユーモアの要素とは何かを考え作品へ昇華させていきたい。

②日本の文化に潜むユーモアの要素を作品に昇華し、世界へ発信していきたい。

世界中の方々に楽しんでいただけるような制作活動を行っていきたいと思います。

5.Ouchi Galleryでの100人展参加についての感想はどうですか？

貴重な機会をいただきました。海外で作品を発表しようと思ったことはこれまで一度もなかったため、

本当に良いきっかけを与えていただきました。

2013年には個展も開催させていただけるということで、更なるステップアップを目指し精進したいと思います。

100 Artist Exhibition Winner

Hukuzawa Takayuki lives in Tokyo, Japan.

1.) How do you feel about being the winner of the 100 Artist Exhibition?

To participate in the exhibition, all I really had to do was mail in my artwork. And since I wasn't able to come in to meet anyone at the gallery or see the other pieces, it almost doesn't feel like I've won anything. Still, from having seen pictures online, I know many of the other artworks were very powerful, so I'm quite happy and proud that my artwork was selected. .

2.) After deciding to participate in the 100 Artist Exhibition, how did you go about creating your piece? Were there any specific events that happened?

For the first half of this year I had been focusing mostly on promotion for pieces like NODSE: pieces that had grown from almost two years of foundation of past works. However, with the “Red” 100 Artist Exhibition, I decided to make a new piece in the NODSE series, called “Nosebleed” and given a red cord. Although I considered the mold itself as important, I wanted people to focus primarily on the concept behind it. I wrote a concept story tying “Red” and “Nosebleed” together and then translated it into English with the help of my friend, Mari. I believe having both the image and the concept unified allowed the piece to be expressed effectively.

3.) What compelled you to participate in the 100 Artist Exhibition?

As I mentioned earlier, during that time I wasn't making art as much as I was trying to find a way to gain exposure. So when I heard about the 100 Artist Exhibition, I was immediately interested. At that time, it was just after the earthquake in Japan; countries around the world were giving their support. And seeing that, I felt compelled to express my gratefulness and to show that Japan was in good shape.

Natusko Tatsumi "AND BUBBLE GUM"

Natusko Tatsumi's solo exhibition AND BUBBLE GUM was on July 2nd.
The artist, Natsuko, came from Japan for this exhibition.

Her artistic intention is to make post cards that are fun to write and fun to receive. Here on the table are an assortment of these cards, showing a variety of people and animals all with big bubble gum balloons.

These pieces made with oil pastels are of Tokyo.

The focal point of the exhibition was an interactive piece, made from expansions of Natsuko's postcards. The guest were allowed to draw and write on them to create a collaborative piece of art.

Natsuko Tatsumi was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1983. Her father was assigned a job in New York and her family moved there when she was a four month baby. She went to a kindergarten where they let me do whatever she was interested in freely. Drawing pictures was one of her favorite things there. When she was five years old, they came back to Tokyo and she started going to a drawing class in their neighborhood. Art was her favorite subject and she was good at it. She graduation from Musashino Art University Visual Communication Design in 2007. She is selling her post cards and message cards in cafés and small articles shops of Japan. She hopes her art will give you happiness.

Michiko Horie "Froth on the Daydream"

July 26 (Tue) was Michiko Horie's opening reception party.

She came from Paris to New York for this show.

Even when her art is sometimes vulgar in subject, it's always positive.

These are portraits of young Japanese students, similar to what is often portrayed in Japanese pop culture. They would be attractive and almost perfect were it not for the pink meat that Horie paints on their heads. These imperfections and impurities are brought to the forefront from what is inside.

Titled サラリーマン (Salary Man), these portraits depict typical Tokyo businessman, often popularized in pop culture images of Japan. Especially in France, the perception of these men is starkly negative. Here, Horie puts stuffed animals on their heads.

This image is stylistically similar to that of 渋谷ギャル (Shibuya Girls) who run away from home and live in small communities on the streets of Tokyo. For a time, many of these girls (and less frequently boys) would be seen wearing stuffed animals on their heads as a means of protection. By splicing these two images together, Michiko Horie offers the Salary Men a sort of protection in hopes of helping them stay strong.

Michiko Horie was born in Tokyo, Japan where she completed her studies at school of design. She moved to France 1998, Now she works and lives in Paris. Paris became her main stage where she holds an exhibition of her works. Recently, she started the exhibition in New York & Tokyo. The tableaux I create are inspired by my memory, the present, dreams and reality. A large part of her work is created by instinctive inspiration. Recollection of my girlhood dwell in my mind and has asked me many spontaneous questions. My work derives from these questions, desires, fears and girly dreams. I convey these feelings by images or sometimes words. I'm also inspired by incidents read in newspapers and literature books. I am engaged in story telling. I started my art with paintings and then developed , which I have incorporated in my work. These new adopted technics have freed me from formalities and has opened new perspectives.

Hwayoun Lee's solo exhibition

7/23 (SAT) 7-10pm, opening reception of Hwayoun Lee's solo exhibition.

The above piece is a story made through pictures. It started with a fine dot and went through a journey, rotating through expanding and contracting circles, into bold colors, and back to fine tints, all before returning to the small dot.

This piece was created using a cigarette box from Finland. Propping the box open is translucent plastic with a poem inscribed on it.

Hwayoun Lee also described her artistic process to us. When she creates art, she finds her inspiration through a method of self-purging. In each piece, she attempts to empty herself. In some ways, it seemed similar to meditative technique.

Shingo Ishida's solo exhibition

Shingo Ishida's Live Painting

Usually when an artist is painting, he or she likes to concentrate and finish it in one sitting, especially for live painting. However, Shingo does it very differently. He started with big, dynamic strokes but before moving on, took a break and talked to the guests. Shortly after, he began painting again. Then he took another break. In the end, the painting remained unfinished at the opening reception, and we don't know what it might have become. Still, just seeing his process was very cool and interesting.

Shingo Ishida expressed it since the days of a student in various ways experimentally. It is an illustration / a picture / cartoon film live broadcasting paint. He has an ideal and the completion form of the work to do. It is creation of the line drawing like oneself. He pictured a character illustration with an aqueous pen mainly so far for a long term. However, without the directionality that my work should advance to between a commercial illustration and modern art while He is active as a writer being decided / Days He was similar, and to make a tangle continued. He continue groping for the pursuit of new line drawing now to steal out of such a hesitation. By the way, He featured the theme of a process of the evolution before reaching it from the origin of my line drawing at the present by this private exhibition.
He thinks creation whether He thoroughly can enjoy the world of overflowing line drawing to the full.

U-chora's solo exhibition

The opening reception party with Tanabata live painting was on July 7th, 7-10PM

Do you know what Tanabata is?

Tanabata is a Japanese star festival that celebrates the meeting of the deities, Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). The custom for Tanabata is to write one's wishes on a piece of paper and hang it on a specially erected bamboo tree in the hope that the wishes become true.

At the opening party, U-chora painted the Milky Way while patrons added their wishes on folded paper to the tree.

Some of you might be curious about what the name U-chora means.

U-chora's U comes from her real name and chora means painter in Kiswahili.

In U-chora's art, there are hardly any negative themes, everything is meant to represent her feelings of inspiration from special experiences.

U-chora says her own favorite piece is the blue one in the above picture.

This was painted for her best friend who was pregnant and soon giving birth.

During this time, she felt something mysterious and was deeply moved by it, coming to the realization that it's impossible to live alone -- in some way, we are all connected and related to each other. Even her friend's baby will soon get to know and feel related to many people in the future.

This piece was made by scrap of leather from a long-established shoes store in Tokyo. U-chora considers it a collaboration between the shoes store and herself. To her, a rose symbolizes something that would never want to change. The rose's thorns seem to suggest that it shouldn't even be touched. So this rose of leather is meant to illustrate U-chora's desires which aren't to be easily changed by others.

We also had handmade frozen margarita to bear the heat of summer! Wasn't it good?

u-chora is a Japanese illustrater and artist. She has published a variety of her works through leather arts, shutter paints, live paints , also in personal exhibitions.
Born in Saitama in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area in Japan in 1984, she was raised in a town with a lot of nature and loved painting pictures of nature and stories.
She was impressed and inspired by works painted by a blind illustrator in her early teens. She was shocked to know that a picture painted by a blind person who had never seen anything could move people so much. By the incident, she became aware of what you can't see but you can sense in arts and expressions.
After graduated from a design school, she worked as a designer for a while but decided to become an artist to express her inner feelings from within in a painting.
Her theme is to express beauty of every life, colors of human feelings through herself in canvas.

Paik Sae Hyun solo exhibition

The Korean artist Paik Sae Hyun's opening reception party was July 1 (Fri) 6pm-10pm

It was good to see everyone after a month since the opening reception for the 100 artist exhibition.

This large, three-panel piece is called "Universe"

Sae Hyun says it depicts a dirty city sky, but studded with stars of hope.

A lot of guests like this piece the most.

The artist Sae Hyun was very friendly, and she spoke with guests and explain her art works.

There was a college student walking around, looking at the art works and writing poems. It was so interesting that he feels something from Miss Paik's art works and express into such a different kind of art of poems. sweet :3

Paik Sae Hyun was born in 1987 in in-chon Korea. After high school she worked as an illustrator and designer she also went to design school (sadi-samsung art and design institute). She studied visual graphics for one year of a foundation step.

She has a stronger passion for art than design. In the spring 2010, I quit design school and came to New York alone to begin my life as an artist. She is interested in painting, installation art, video art and interactive art. She focuses on abstract painting. This is the first solo exhibition.

Ouchi trip to Philadelphia

In Philadelphia there is a gallery that greatly inspired Arisa when she was first founding Ouchi Gallery.

The Ouchi staff went to see how this gallery helped in the formation of Ouchi gallery.

We got philly burgers and ready to go!

It was a long way to the gallery from the station. It was a hot walk but so beautiful!!
Beautiful houses, green grass, and fresh air.

Then, the Ouchi sisters finally arrived at the Baenes Foundation.

The gallery was AWESOME!

The collections inlcluded well-known works by artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh and many other famous painters. However, they weren't displayed all that elegantly, the same concept as at Ouchi's. Art is part of our everyday life, so it shouldn't be seen as too special.

Their art was amazing, and we stayed there for long time. Then, just before leaving the gallery, we learned that Baenes Foundation is moving in a month to a new location in downtown Philadelphia. We liked how they were set up here, so we thought this was sad to hear. However, everyone had a good time. It was a great experience for the Ouchi staff.

And after that, the Ouchi sisters went shopping, had ice cream and dinner, and then slept on the way back to Manhattan. Good night Ouchi girls...

Naoko Ogasawara "Fragment of the memories"

Opening reception of the Japanese artist Naoko' solo exhibition was on May 24th.

Her art works are very abstract and make people wonder. She seeks ambivalent relations of the body, flesh of desire and sorrow, in a same time shrine of soul, and the spirit. Also, she wishes to contain instantaneousness of mixture of time and energy into her art works eternally. To her artworks, she repeatedly uses the red camellia, shed pollen even a bloom fell to a ground that gives her impression of obsession to the life. The red camellia is her symbols of death and regeneration, light and darkness, anima and animus, real world and another world.

We all live in the world which has both live and death. There is no border line for them.

She thinks we're always in the gradation of live and death.

"Energy→●←Time"

The line goes to the right is ENERGY and the line goes to the left is TIME, and she believes that when these two mixed up, any possibility could be happened.

What do see from this?

Is it erotic, feminine or woman's sorrow? hummm..

Feminine and erotic are so different, but that what she wants. The opposite thing can be seen.

Home made Sangria and dark chocolate. Sangria was awesome with organic fruits.

Naoko Ogasawara has born 1963 at Tokyo. After graduate university as economic major, she started her career as a graphic designer and advertising planner. From 1993, she studied at Corcoran college of Art, Washington, D.C. majoring fine art. Restart her painting activities from 2009. Based on Kobe, Japan.

There was Jazz live @Ouchi last Saturday by our Arisa i (vocal), Toru Yamaguchi (guitar) and Shingo Sugimono (piano and sound effects).

concept :

The earth after the end of the civilization is wrought with
environmental destruction, war. A girl survives the ruins. She stands
on the edge of what was once vast waters, a source of life. She is
dreaming, following the footsteps of her past in the music of the 20th
century: jazz, bossanova, pop. It is warm, longing, sad, and
beautiful. This is music that she made, music that lived within her.
At times she wakes from the dream, too sudden, and longs to return to
its rhythms. The dream gone: with it a person's warmth, a person that
no longer exists. It is only her desire that keeps the dream alive, a
desire of experience.

The girl awakens: it is still a world without humanity. This is
reality; lonely, bereft, silent. But then a new rhythm, the beat of
footsteps of nature coming closer from a long distance. It is nature
from the eons of the past, nature that brought us life, nature that
now reproduces the earth that man has destroyed. The rains come. The
earth is enriched. Water flows into the sea and the essence of life
will be come before long. She lives in nature as one, a powerful
force, a new beat of the old, enveloping the earth.

Formed in 2009, the art unit room 507 is based in Brooklyn, New

York. Members are Arisa (Vocals), Toru Yamauchi (Guitar), and Shinya

Sugimoto (Sound effects). Aiming at composite art, room 507 fuses old

Jazz, electronic sound and visual elements into the new style of music

performance. Their conceptual performance is based on a story set in

ruined earth in the future.
